Job Description – Lead DevOps Engineer (Azure, Bicep, Kubernetes)

Location: Netherlands (Hybrid) Contract: 12 Months Seniority: Senior / Lead

Role Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled Lead DevOps Engineer with deep hands‑on experience in Azure, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Bicep), and Kubernetes to drive the design, automation, and delivery of our cloud‑native platforms. You will lead the engineering effort to build scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure, working closely with Cloud, Platform, and Development teams to modernise and optimise our delivery pipelines and production environments.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex distributed systems, enjoys solving infrastructure challenges through automation, and can provide technical leadership across DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure Engineering (Azure)

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure.

  • Implement secure and scalable architectures using Azure services (Compute, Networking, Storage, Key Vault, App Services, AKS).

  • Lead cloud governance, cost optimisation, and operational excellence initiatives.

Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Bicep)

  • Develop and maintain IaC using Azure Bicep for repeatable, automated deployments.

  • Define reusable modules, templates, and deployment patterns.

  • Ensure IaC follows best practices for security, compliance, and maintainability.

Kubernetes & Container Platforms

  • Manage and optimise Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters.

  • Implement cluster hardening, RBAC, network policies, and workload security.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD workflows for containerised applications.

  • Oversee container registry management, image standards, and runtime governance.

DevOps, Automation & CI/CD

  • Lead the design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar).

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks.

  • Implement monitoring, logging, and observability across cloud and container platforms.

  • Champion DevOps best practices across engineering teams.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Act as a technical lead for DevOps initiatives across multiple teams.

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and architectural input to engineers.

  • Work closely with security teams to embed security controls into infrastructure and pipelines.

  • Drive continuous improvement across tooling, automation, and platform reliability.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure (compute, networking, identity, storage, AKS).

  • Expert‑level proficiency with Azure Bicep and Infrastructure‑as‑Code principles.

  • Deep experience with Kubernetes (AKS preferred) including cluster operations and workload management.

  • Strong background in DevOps engineering, automation, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience with containerisation (Docker), registries, and image lifecycle management.

  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and cloud governance.

  • Proficiency in scripting or programming (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.).

  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, etc.).
