SAP HCM Payroll Consultant Germany (m/w/d)

Location: Germany (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time (37.5–40 hours/week)
Type: In-house / Internal Corporate Role (Non-Consulting)


Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced SAP HCM Payroll Consultant to join an international in-house HR & Payroll function within a large corporate environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for the ongoing support, optimisation, and development of SAP Payroll processes across multiple countries, with a strong focus on Germany alongside additional European and international locations.

This is not a consulting role, you will be part of a permanent internal team, directly contributing to the stability, compliance, and continuous improvement of global payroll operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality support for SAP Payroll processes in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Ensure stable and efficient payroll operations across multiple international entities within the organisation
  • Support and drive process improvement initiatives, including:
    • Payroll developments and system enhancements
    • Data migration and system integration activities
    • Coordination of technical development workstreams
  • Manage relationships with external nearshore and offshore service providers and ensure delivery quality
  • Oversee planning, execution, and quality control of payroll-related changes and developments
  • Implement semi-annual legal change packages in SAP HCM, including SAP Notes and regulatory updates
  • Ensure timely response to legal, regulatory, and compliance changes
  • Act as a key contact for internal end users, ensuring proactive communication and fast issue resolution
  • Contribute to cross-country payroll projects and wider HR transformation initiatives

Required Experience & Skills

  • Extensive experience in SAP HCM Payroll, with strong German payroll customizing expertise
  • Solid knowledge of:
    • Personnel Administration (PA)
    • Payroll (PY)
    • Time Management (TM)
    • Organizational Management (OM)
    • Employee Self-Service (ESS/MSS)
  • Strong technical understanding of:
    • SAP S/4HANA
    • SAP HCM
    • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central integration with SAP HCM
    • ABAP/4 (desirable)
  • Deep expertise in payroll configuration, including:
    • Wage types
    • Payroll schemas
    • Payroll functions and rules
  • Experience working in internal SAP HR environments (non-consulting background preferred or transferable)
  • Familiarity with SAP HCM migration programmes (e.g. S/4HANA / HANA transitions)
  • Understanding of HR change management and user onboarding processes
  • Fluency in German and English (additional languages are an advantage)
